Abelina Maribel Briones

September 14, 1977 — September 1, 2023

Houston

Abelina Maribel Briones was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Lina passed away on September 1st, 2023, at the age of 45, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones.

Lina was born to Bertha Echavarria and Victoriano Lara on September 14th, 1977, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She moved to Houston, TX, at the age of 12 and attended Deady Middle School and Milby High School. At a young age, she met her great love and husband, Carlos Briones, and together they welcomed their first child, Carlos Briones Jr. Years later, they welcomed their two daughters, Bianca Aylin Briones and Jocelyn Briones.

Lina dedicated her life to being a wife and raising her three children. She worked at Fair Deal Auto Sales for 17 years and eventually joined her husband and son as a driver at Expedited Logistics and Freight Services. When she wasn’t working, she loved to cut the grass, exercise, and spend time with her family. Lina was best known for being strong-willed, the life of the party, and for lending a helping hand. She was always there for her loved ones in many different aspects, with no hesitation and no questions asked. She was always willing to strike up a conversation or share a story to make someone feel welcome. Lina touched many lives with her generosity and straightforward personality.

In October 2022, Lina’s lifelong dream of becoming a grandmother became a reality. She embraced her role beautifully for ten months and took care of and loved her grandson, Diego Abel Briones, as if he were her own.

Lina always faced life’s challenges with a smile and a tough attitude. Her battle with cancer was no different. She endured treatment after treatment and painful side effects gracefully and faithfully.

Lina was predeceased by her father and younger brother, Jose de Jesus. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Victor Manuel Mendoza; her sisters, Maria Guadalupe, Bertha Magaly, and Ana Manuela; her youngest brother, Victor Noe; her husband of 31 years; her son and his spouse, Cynthia Salazar; two daughters and their significant others; and one grandson, who will all miss her immensely.
