With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Basilia Lopez Mendez, age 88, who entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Basilia was born on September 12, 1936, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Jose Lopez and Nicolasa Guerra Lopez. A woman of quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering faith, she lived a full life rooted in family and tradition.
Basilia was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Carlos Cisneros, Vicente Garcia, and Guadalupe Mendez; her cherished son Paul (Pablo) Cisneros; and her dear daughter Lucy Lopez.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Esther Gonzales, Felipe Cisneros, Ray Garcia, Norma Jean Garcia, Rudy Garcia, Victoria Nicole Rivera, Jo Ann Plaza, Tony Garcia and Guadalupe Mendez. Her life was further blessed by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends who will continue to carry her spirit forward in their hearts.
Basilia found joy in the simple pleasures—watching westerns and scary movies, working on crossword puzzles, and gathering with loved ones for a lively game of Dominoes. Her warmth, wit, and wisdom lit up every room, and her presence brought comfort and connection to those around her.
Though she has departed from this world, her memory remains a source of strength, laughter, and love. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by her large and loving family.
A celebration of her life will be held in honor of the woman who gave so much and asked for so little in return.
Rest in peace, Basilia. Your love endures in us all.
