Mustapha Clyde Ali, a beloved figure known for his warmth, humor, and unwavering dedication to family and community, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 60. Born in Trinidad and Tobago on March 14, 1965, Mustapha spent his life as a beacon of kindness and joy in the lives of those around him. For 25 years, Mustapha served as a General Manager and Trainer at Denny's, where he was much more than just a leader; he was a mentor and friend to countless employees, many of whom became extensions of his own family. His infectious laughter could brighten the most difficult of days, and his talent for cooking turned every gathering into a celebration. Mustapha had a special knack for providing for those in need, often preparing charity meals for programs like Meals on Wheels, leaving a lasting impact on the community he cherished so deeply. Family was at the heart of Mustapha’s life.
For 33 wonderful years, he shared his journey with his loving wife, Patricia Cortinas Ali. Together they created a nurturing home filled with love and laughter. Mustapha was equally proud of his children: his son, Joseph Edward Ali, and wife Cheyenne, and his daughter, Ashley Marie Gonzalez, and husband Dylan. Mustapha embraced his role as a grandfather to Emrys Everleigh Gonzalez, showering her with love and affection that will forever be remembered. He is also survived by his Mother and Father in-law, Enrique and Maria Sarmiento. He was surrounded by an extended family that included, brothers Reffick Errol, Shaffick, Azard, and sister Aklima Angela Ali. Mustapha’s siblings were not only his family but also his lifelong companions in adventures, laughter, and shared memories. Mustapha cherished spending time with his nieces and nephews who thought of him also as a friend and big brother. The precious fur babies the two cats Gizmo and Fat Louie and dog Pinky Luna Ali. He mourned the loss of his parents, Isha M. Ali and Farzan Ali, adorned cousin, Zorida Khan and beloved sister-in-law, Nelda Kay Ali whose spirit continues to live on in him.
Mustapha had a profound passion for sports, delighting in watching games and celebrating victories, big and small. His particular interest was in the Houston Texans, Astros and Rockets. However, there was no place he enjoyed more than Disney World, which felt like his second home and where countless family memories were made. His love for travel allowed him to experience life in ways that enriched not only his own existence but also that of those who loved him. As a pallbearer, he would have been honored to see his cherished family stand beside him – his son Joseph, his son-in-law Dylan, his nephews Justin Ali, Reyad Ali, father-in-law Enrique Sarmiento, brother-in-laws Reynaldo Cortinas, Ricardo Cortinas, and Carlos Cortinas, Jr. The honorary pallbearers, his dear brothers Reffick, Shaffick, and Azard, stood as testaments to the remarkable man that he was.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Integrity Funeral Home, located at 8601 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX. Thursday, May 22, 2025 a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas 77002. The final resting ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Refreshments will be from 1-3pm following the interment in the Integrity Funeral Home Parlor.
