Elena Montelongo Cortez

Elena Montelongo Cortez age 77 died on the 5th of January 2026 in her home after a long three-year battle with complications due to dementia. She was surrounded by her loved ones until her last breath. Elena, also known as Elenita to her friends and family was born on August 10, 1948, in the small town of Edinburg, Texas to the late Refugio and Victoria Montelongo. She was the second oldest of 7 siblings whom she loved dearly.

On October 25, 1969, she married the love of her life Hilario M. Cortez in Houston, Texas at Holy Ghost Church. Which whom she had three children the late Hilario Cortez, Jr., Juan Cortez and Sandra Cortez. Followed by 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Elena was very loving, kind, generous, and sweet to her friends and family in fact anyone she came in contact with. She was also very active in her local church. She was well known and loved by the members of the community.

Words can’t express how much Elena will be missed but never will be forgotten.
