On October 9, 2022, Javier Cantu left us peacefully in his sleep after a short illness to join our Lord. Javier was the son of the late Corando Cantu, and Albeza Ruiz Cantu, both originally of Realitos, Texas. Javier was born in Alice, Texas on December 2, 1962. At the time of his death, Javier was surrounded by close family members and his mother, Albeza.
Javier was a life-long resident of Houston, Texas. He graduated from Worthing High School. Javier was a member of the Texas Special Olympics Family and as such participated in many events and competitions always with his special smile and joy. He gained many medals and awards competing in Basketball, Baseball, Bowling, and Track and Field.
Javier worked at Minute Maid Park and Goodwill. As an active Houstonian, working at Minute Maid gave Javier the joy of watching one of his favorite home-town teams, the Astros. Javier was also an avid Texans fan and would often exchange playful banter with his Cowboy fan family members.
At the time of his death at the age of 59, Javier led a life blessing all of those who met him with an undeniable gregarious and beautiful spirit. Javier passed early on Sunday morning in Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Javier was proceeded in death by his father, Corando Cantu. Many will miss Javier and will know that Javier had a special role from Heaven as his beloved Houston Texans won their first game of the season on the day of his passing. Javier is survived by many cousins, extended family, and close friends especially of the Special Olympics Family. Javier is further survived by his dear Mother, Albeza Cantu.
