Rev. Manuel Rodriguez Esquibel, 97, passed away on September 27, 2025, in his beloved Weslaco, Texas. Born on August 15, 1928, in Altos, Oklahoma, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, dedicated service, and deep devotion to his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Rev. Esquibel enlisted in 1943 at the age of 15 and served until 1948. Rising to the rank of Sergeant, he saw active combat during World War II, including service at Iwo Jima. His military career was a testament to his courage and steadfast commitment to duty.
Manuel married Isabel Moreno, together raising their children in Oklahoma, Ohio, and later Houston.
Rev. Esquibel answered a spiritual calling that would define the rest of his life. He became a pastor and traveled across the United States to share the word of God. His sermons were deeply rooted in scripture and delivered with conviction shaped by years of study and prayer. For him, preaching was not merely a profession—it was a sacred mission carried out with humility and passion. He found great joy in reading the Bible and preparing sermons that inspired countless individuals over the decades. Music also played an important role in his ministry; he often played guitar and sang during services, using song as a heartfelt expression of faith.
Those who knew him remember him as a counselor, mentor, provider, fierce protector, and musician—generous with both stories and kindness. His wisdom and compassion left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Manuel Esquibel is preceded in death by his Parents Jose & Esther Esquibel, His wife, Isabel Moreno Esquibel. His son, Manuel Esquibel Jr, son Robert "Bobby" Esquibel, son Ezekiel Esquibel . Daughters Rosie Esquibel & Cristella Esquibel. Son Richard M. Esquibel.
