Maria Edicta Iriarte Blanco

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maria Edicta Iriarte Blanco – affectionately known as Edith –, who departed this life on June 3, 2025, at the age of 78. Her warmth, strength, and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born on September 16, 1946, in El Salvador, Edith moved to Houston, Texas at the age of 35 to begin a new chapter for herself and her family. She embraced her new life with courage, resilience, and love. Always impeccably dressed and full of life, she never stopped dreaming of her next adventure.

Edith had a deep love for nature. She cared for her plants, finding joy and peace in their growth. Music stirred her soul—she danced often and with joy, lighting up every space she entered. Her home was a haven of warmth and hospitality. At one time or another, nearly every family member found shelter, comfort, or a fresh start under her roof. She gave generously, without hesitation, and created a home where people felt safe, welcome, and loved.

She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Melvin, who passed away during childhood, and her sister, Marlene Blanco. She is survived by her daughters Edith Cecilia, Maritza Elizabeth, and Julieta Marisol; her mother Juana Rizo Blanco; her sister Rosa Blanco; and her brother Santos Blanco.

She also leaves behind five grandchildren—Rickey Gaviria, Denise Clark, Jasmine Quiroz, and Jamie Quiroz—and four great-grandchildren, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Edith’s legacy of grace, generosity and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the blessing of knowing her.
