Obituary

Loved to bake cakes! She baked our childhood birthday cakes, family quinceañera cakes and wedding cakes.

When she wasn’t baking she was sewing. She’d make both mine and my sisters outfits for school. Everyone in our neighborhood knew she was a seamstress so they’d bring her little jobs. She was a hairdresser! She loved to cut hair and style up do’s. She always dyed her hair because despite the fact that she was a grandma she was not going to walk around with grey hair. She was a custodian at Moore Elementary for 28 years. She was proud of her job and did it with pride. Carried it home and made sure everything was always cleaning. She was always cleaning. She was always moving, doing things. Above all she was a woman of faith. She always made sure she read 2 pages of the bible every morning before she started her day. She believed in Gods goodness and always encouraged us to pray and talk to God any time. Any time we’d leave the house she would always tell us Dios te bendiga (God bless you). She was sweet, loving, caring woman. She’d take her last dollar bill and give to the guy in need or would give her last few tamales to someone else just so they had something to eat. She was big making sure everyone was cared for or fed before she was. She always made anyone feel welcomed. Even if she didn’t speak English she’d somehow get her point across. She was the best!

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Mata, daughters Esther Mata (boyfriend Kendrick Staten), Margarita Mata (husband Isaac Calvillo) and granddaughters, Liliana, Faith, Mia and Sophia, her sister Margarita Salinas her children, Angel, Waldo and Mercedes. She is proceeded by her mom Conrada Lorta, dad Jose Guadalupe Garcia and brother Francisco Martinez.
