Obituary

Pedro “Pete” Alberto Vasquez, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

He was born on April 8, 1942, the son of Julian and Amada (De Leon) Vasquez in Eagle Pass, Texas. In his youth, Pete was a migrant farmworker and traveled all over the Southwest U. S., following the seasonal crop harvests as far as California. As a young man, he chose carpentry as his trade and moved to Houston, Texas to set down roots, establish his carpentry business and start a family.

Pete built a life characterized by an industrious work ethic, a devotion to passing on his carpentry skills to others, a depth of generosity for his friends and family, and a joy for spending time with his loved ones – most often on the porch of his house on Majestic Street. He remodeled this home himself, and he offered it as a sanctuary for generations of his family when they found themselves in need.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Martha (Hernandez); his brothers Julian, Amador and Tony; and his sisters, Alejandra and Elvira. He is survived by his second wife, Maria Elena (Garcia); his children Martha, Debora, Cynthia, Michelle, Jennifer, Lizzette and Kelvin; his grandchildren Selena, Christi, Gabriella, Nikki, Oscar, Lexis, Aailyah, Sofie, Melvorne Jr., Garreth, Lord, Arthur, Jared, Matthew and Angelique; and great-grandchildren, Julian, Jazzlynn and Isla.
