Born on August 16, 1943, in Liberty, Texas, Ross W. Smith was the son of the late Eva and Wilson Smith. He was married to his beloved wife, Johnnie Lois Smith, for 43 years until her passing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Chester, Wilson, and Howard Smith; and his sister, Jewel McBride.
Ross is survived by his three children: Tylon Smith, Jeffery Smith, and Carla Arceneaux (Trent); his sister, Irene Simon (Johnny); and five grandchildren: Cortnee’ Smith, Alexander Babbs, Shannon Allen (Reese), Kristen Smith, and Trenity Arceneaux. He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Mikenzie Allen, Makhi Allen, Macyn Allen, Morgan Allen, Alexander Babbs Jr., and Markel Houston-Babbs.
He dedicated 27 years of his career to Lubrizol as a pump mechanic at the Deer Park chemical plant. Ross was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his profession, earning a Master Certification in Millwright from Lee College.
In his free time, Ross enjoyed playing dominoes, operating heavy equipment, and managing his rental properties. He also had a deep passion for automobiles. When he wasn’t working, he was often seen cruising in his favorite foreign car—a Mercedes-Benz.
This tribute serves as a heartfelt reminder of Ross’s contributions to his family and community, ensuring that his spirit and values will continue to resonate with those who loved him.
